"Gone are the days we stopped to decide where we should go, we just ride."

We ride past the decaying trading post, the wild ponies, and the asphalt roads.
Tires crunch over the tumbleweeds.
We ride till we reach the end of the mesa.
Sagebrush, sunlight, stardust.
Pinon and juniper.
The bones of the earth.

Did you know....
the roadrunner is in the cuckoo family.
they can run at speeds of 20 mph.
they are monogamous and mate for life.

A young neighbor told me it's good luck to see one cross the road.

Best of all, the roadrunners come into the yard and eat the grasshoppers. Then they fly into the trees to pull the wings off said grasshoppers, groom themselves, and taunt the dogs.
We've even taken to calling them roof runners because they fly onto the roof to strut back and forth while the dogs bark themselves into a frenzy. It makes for interesting afternoons.
