Long, lazy days. Blue skies and endless mesas. This is what life is all about....time spent doing nothing more than a little hiking, a little relaxing, and taking in this amazing scenery.
Today I found peace, beauty, two arrowheads, and my life. I think I'll do it again tomorrow.

Tomorrow I will wake up in Colorado. The mountains, the mesas, the canyons call to me. The air will be cool and clear. I will fall in love all over again with this place, a love that doesn't know where I begin or end as I walk across the sage-covered plain, stand on the edge, and become one with all the rock and bone and endless sky that surrounds me. This is my life, and it's a good one.

So much like life itself....sometimes I'm safely on top, sometimes too close to the edge. The fear of falling makes it even more exciting. But the view in all directions makes me take risks....it keeps me coming back for more.

Once upon a time, I found a rusty old bucket on our favorite mesa. When I left the mesa, I hung the bucket on a branch of my favorite tree. Years later, my husband and I returned to the mesa with a bottle of wine and two wine glasses. When we left, we put the wine glasses in the bucket, knowing we would always return to the mesa.
We do return to the mesa, and the rusty old bucket with the wine glasses are still there, waiting for us. But this time there is something more waiting for us. Inside one of the wine glasses are two magical lizards, frozen in time. I imagine these lizards, playing on the rim of the bucket, exploring the glasses, and tumbling to the bottom of one of them. A potentially sad ending for the tiny lizards, but their magic transcends their untimely death, as they will come to live forever in our minds.
We drink to the small lizards in the wine glass. (Yes, I wash the glasses before we drink.)
The rusty old bucket and the wine glasses wait for our return to the mesa. The lizards come home with me.
They watch over us now, perched on a collection of rocks and bones we gather on our walks on the mesa.

The sky and the clouds speak to me. They tell me of life on the mesa, of rain and thunder, of past and future intertwined, life that never ends. They tell of spirits that walk with me, fly with me, attach themselves to my soul and glide with me when I once again enter this sacred ground. This is my heart, my soul, my life, where I am reborn again and again, where nothing and everything changes. I give you all of me. I only ask to walk in your beauty....your canyons, your mountains, your fields of flowers.
